INTERSECTION #1

Espai Privat, Barcelona, 2022

The first presentation of Intersection took place in 2022 at Espai Privat (Barcelona), under the artistic direction of Silvia Cabrera Vilaplana, with a curatorial text by Gabriel Virgilio Luciani.

In this initial phase, the project is conceived as a field of multiple intersections: between painting and video, between bodies, gestures, and gazes. Intersection is not understood as a fusion, but rather as a space of tension in which images overlap, shift, and retain their autonomy without reaching a synthesis.

Gabriel Virgilio Luciani introduces distortion as a central strategy: rotations, inversions, and fragmentations that intensify the mediated nature of the image. Both painting and video are understood as devices that intervene in reality, generating unstable bodies and open forms.

This first iteration establishes the conceptual foundations of the project: a practice in which images do not represent, but act.

Excerpt from Gabriel Virgilio Luciani’s text

An intersection or an intervention? An overlap or a juxtaposition? An evaporation or a dissolution? The image, the painting, is itself an intersection of several realities. The device intervenes in what we normally perceive through layers of cuts that generate collages, versions of bodies, fractals of faces, contortions of stocks… and if images inherently distort reality, why not exaggerate it? Turn them, invert them, twist them, generate new lyrics and melodies from unusual uses. Intersecting can mean becoming one from multiple… it can mean merging while maintaining autonomy… it can mean joining while respecting fragments… it can mean being democratic and then opting for a divorce… it can mean coming together and then deciding to separate.
